I’m sure you’ve heard the rumors that the best day to buy a ticket is on a Tuesday, 7 weeks out from your anticipated departure. Or you obsessively check many websites in order to find the best deals. Sometimes that works. I occasionally do that if I have a certain place to be at a certain time. But more often than not, our travel plans are incredibly flexible. We don’t often care where or when we go and we use that to our advantage to find the best deals. But the best way to find the very best deals on flights? Easy - sign up for Scott’s Cheap Flights!

They started sending out deals in 2015 and we’ve been on their mailing list since probably 2016, when we moved back to Texas. The free version allows you to set your departure region and select desired regions to travel to. We would get about one email each week with deals from nearby airports.

A couple of years ago we opted to pay the $50 annual membership fee for a premium subscriptions. Guys, this was a GAME CHANGER! With the premium, you can select your specific departure airports - not just a region! Being close to New Orleans, I have selected MSY, but also DTW, JFK, ATL, and IAH. All of these are a short drive, or a cheap positioning flight away, and many of them are Delta hubs (our preferred airline we have status with).

With these airports selected, I now get anywhere from 4 - 15 emails each WEEK for deals! Sometimes I get multiple emails each day. Deals like London for $200-$300 this summer during peak travel time, or $600 to Kenya, $100s to Costa Rica, or Hawaii in the $300s. We’ve booked open jaw flights to Germany for $550, round trip flights to Portugal for under $500, flights to Alaska for under $400 (normally $800!!). We’ve EASILY saved more in flights than the membership cost. We fly exclusively on SkyTeam airlines for the loyalty rewards, but there are deals on all of the three major alliances (SkyTeam, Oneworld, and Staralliance) as well as alliance-free airlines like JetBlue and Cathay Pacific.
