Travel Review: Gulen Dive Resort

I'm not sure how, but a while ago, Aaron learned about Gulen Dive Resort, a small dive resort about two hours (give or take) north of Bergen, nestled in among the fjords of Western Norway. When he saw they had a house reef with nudibranchs, some of which aren't found anywhere else, AND World War II shipwreck diving, it jumped to pretty close to the top of his list of places to dive. When my sister and I decided to meet up in Norway, and she agree to do some babysitting, we knew we could make it work.

Communism Tour of Prague

In an effort to find unique things to do when we travel, I am often reduced to googling, "unique things to do in _" or "offbeat things to experience in _". Not very original, I know. Sometimes, my searching is a bust, other times, it turns up hidden gems. This tour was one of them. Guys, we got to visit a BUNKER in Prague! And yes, it was just as cool, both literally and figuratively, as it sounds.

Two Weeks in Norway

May is full of holidays in Germany. So many, in fact, that there is only one full week in the entire month. We make sure to take advantage of these holidays by traveling (we did the exact same thing last year by traveling to Iceland, Austria, and Paris). A while ago, Aaron had discovered a dive resort near Bergen, Norway that offered both reef and shipwreck diving in the fjords. We kept it filed away, something that we might want to do once I was back in the water after Evelyn was born. And then my sister said she wanted to come visit. Since she had already visited us in Germany, we decided to meet somewhere else - to explore more of Europe. She and I had always wanted to visit Norway, and combined with the diving Aaron found, Norway was an easy decision.

Our Next Adventure

Two years ago, we were spending our last summer in Michigan for the foreseeable future. We packed up and sold our home, spent weeks, if not months, saying good bye to friends and family, and went on one heck of a two week dive and road trip in the Upper Peninsula. It was stressful to say the least, but we were excited for what lay in store for us in Germany. We knew we wanted to travel and explore the heck out of our new, albeit, temporary home. But, we also always knew that the time would come when we would have to leave. At first, we were only supposed to be here about 16 months. As we got closer to the 16 month mark, our time here kept getting extended. But now, the time has come for us to leave.

Rome is one of the most visited cities in Europe. It's, quite literally, ancient, with the current city built directly on top of Roman ruins thousands of years old. The city has seen everything from the growth, and collapse of one of the greatest empires in history, plagues, near abandonment, followed by regrowth. It;s often called the Eternal City, and for good reason. Rome is big like Paris and to fully explore the city would take weeks, if not months or even years. Most people don't have that kind of time though and spend only a few days in the city (we did). Rome, the Eternal City. It's unbelievable how photogenic this city is. It's practically a museum with statues, fountains, and art work by the masters nearly everywhere.
